Is a Public Defender Good Enough?

We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.

All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.

In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.

Every day we stand before choices – some big, some small. And often the real devotion is not just asking God to bless the path we want but being willing to take the path He directs.

Sometimes life feels like standing between two bridges, unsure which way to go. What God asks of us first is not perfect understanding, but trust. When we acknowledge Him, He promises to direct our paths.

One of the hardest things for any man of God to do is give instruction to someone about which bridge to cross. If any preacher is telling you the truth, we struggle with this daily in our own lives. Just simply not knowing what to do. It’s difficult to tackle this subject in a small devotion, but I would like to try to give some insight if I can.

Imagine yourself all by yourself, standing at two bridges in your spiritual woods. One way will lead out of the woods, and the other will lead deeper into the woods. As you stand there your heart starts to pound because of the obvious consequences of the wrong move. This is your life we are talking about. One wrong move leads you to problems and heartache. As you look across both bridges you see both have been used before. Across the bridges you find there is a dirt path that continues into the woods. But one is wider, more traveled. And the other looks a little less traveled. Maybe on this path it looks as if there are more trees, and more complications. As you are trying to understand which bridge to cross it looks as if you need to travel the way that looks the simplest. After all, more people have traveled over the one bridge. It’s obvious it has been the road more traveled. In our own understanding and common thinking, you need to go across the bridge more traveled. So, which do you choose and which one do you burn?

Maybe, just maybe, you already know what is right. You are just standing there trying to tell yourself out of what is right. For years I run from God’s will for my life. It took me 18 years staring at two bridges to understand which one I needed to choose. And finally, that day comes. So, which one did I choose? I chose the one less traveled. The one with a small path instead of a larger path. The bridge looked a little newer because not many people had traveled Across it. So, one would think I burned the most traveled bridge. But can I tell you what I did? I burned down both bridges. I no longer needed the more traveled bridge, and I was not going back across the less traveled bridge again. I made my decision and right or wrong I was depending on God to take care of me. And seventeen years later I am still traveling and still finding bridges. Mostly crossing the one that is less traveled. And burning both to the ground. Nothing has come easy, but it sure has been more precious. You see I needed God more on my less traveled paths. Causing me to trust more and Love God more than I ever had before. In otherwards I was lonely and needed Him more. All because I crossed bridges that most people do not.

It is all about Him.
